48" plasma just died, they wanted a bit over $1k to fix it... that's what I paid for the thing, so I decided against it. I'm looking for something at least that big, preferably bigger. No projectors. Anyone have any suggestions that aren't exorbitantly expensive? Thanks.

Ps. If you're going to recommend Sony, don't bother posting.

You got a 48" plasma for just over 1K? :Q No wonder it already died.

I've always been fond of Toshiba.

a 48'' plasma, dead? Oh my lord, you poor thing... Try getting an LCD. Plasma pictures wil lfade over time whereas LCD will not. Try something from LG, I've heard pretty good things about their TVs. Samsung is good as well.

I hope you don't think you're going to replace that plasma for $1K.

I really just want a big screen at a reasonable price, and not something that'll die on me in a year. If there are better looking screens out there, so be it. I probably watch more TV & movies on my PC than I do on my TV anyway.

A good ol CRT tube television like a Sony Wega does the job 😀

Me my widescreen television got a really nice burn in.

So i took this excuse, plus the fact that i was having crappy SD and Satellite picture quality on this widescreen television, to buy back an Old CRT wega.

I got back a 32", 4:3 and very happy about it PLUS it do 16:9( enhanced mode) if i wish to do it.

Sure its not HD ready...but so fvckin what.there is like 10 HD channel and it have been the same for the past 8 month....so that also kinda get on my nerves.

Long live CRT!!!

My pc screen is a good ol CRT ( viewsonic e70f +sb ULTRABRIGHT)and i will never trade this screen for a freakin LCD...

price per size order: plasma, DLP projection, LCD.

CRT is dead end anyway.
tech crap to look for
720i, 1080i for best future compatibility
DVI in, or HDMI in a must, HD component inputs a must.

built in HDTV receiver or HD ready (if you get HD from cable provider) depending on what you want to do.

cannot recommend any specific models, since there are sooo many.
