My 5 year old WRT54G has completely gone dead so its time to get a new router. I got a buffalo router at my other house with a ehternet converter so that we have a strong signal throughout the house. However, I saw that Buffalo has a bit of a more advanced router, and i am wondering if it is worth it. All the wireless adapters are built in on the 5 laptops we have in the house, and they all take wireless G, so I am trying to figure out what to get..

Also, my last option is to just use a airport base station i have laying around, the only thing about it is i dont know how to configure it on an all windows network. I had tried doing it two or so years ago, but i could never figure it out, but at that time i wasn't too knowlegable about networking. So i am wondering if i should give it a try, because i know that thing can give a signal like nothing else.

so any suggestions on the type of router i should get?

the first one seems to be the only one in stores, but any suggestions outside or inside of the buffalo company?

thanks

well if youve got the base station, id give it a shot before i spent any money

youll need this base station utility for windows to set it up.

ive only used a couple of base stations. iirc, youll need to be sure that "automatically acquire ip address" is selected in your network properties, plug in to a lan port on the base station, and once you have a connection run the utility. it should pick up the airport and let you change whatever settings need to be changed

otherwise, the buffalo high powered router works great if you need the extra range :)

actually i guess it would, cuz i dont have the graphite base station. But this is for the router at my parents house so i might as well keep things a little easier and go ahead and get the wireless G MIMO with the ethernet converter (its the setup i have at my house)

If you need 802.11a then the Router in your 2nd limk is the thing to get.

Otherwise, the set in your first link of the High Power line (MIMO like) is currently the best Bang for the Buck.

yea i got the wireless g mimo router and then the ethernet converter for the 3rd level, but im thinking i should of gotten the repeater instead. The ethernet converter can serve as a repeater i guess, but probably not as well as the regular old repeater. Also, what is a good area to put the repeater or ethernet converter? i currently have it on the other side of the house on the 3rd level of the house (the router is on the oppostive side of the house on level 1.)

It isnt really giving me much help on level 3...
