My mowers are used probably 5-6 times the normal amount of common mowers. This is because I mow many yards besides mine, so the mower has to be very reliable/good construction.

THe mower that just died was a Craftsman. The self propeled has died after three years (gear box, bearings, ect)

I dont have enough time/patience to fix the problem (I could if it was middle of summer, etc, but atm im crammed)

So I am going to buy a new mower tonight, which brand should i get?

Requirements: 20"-23" self propeled push mower. 6+ hp

Brands? seams to me (based off all my power tool experiences) that brands such as Troybuilt, Craftsman (so i thought...) and others are good. What about the john deeres?

Thanks in advance

Look for one that has a OHV motor. They usually run more smooth and have more torque.

I recommend Toro, but stay away from 2 cycle engines (are they still allowed to sell 2 cycle engines?).

I am still using a Toro with a Briggs & Straton engine that was made in 1980. I change oil, change the spark plug, clean the air filter, and it keeps on running. I don't know if they still make them like that today. I've literally used this mower since our neighbor gave it to us when I was 13 years old. That means I've used this mower for 15 years now.

I hear good things about Honda mowers too.

I'd stay with Craftsman

I've had problems with Lawn Boys
My neighbors Toro didn't do so hot either, but that was a high stress mowing job (he lets his lawn grow a while between mowings)

I currently have a Craftsmen, though it isn't self-propelled
