Need A New Power Supply

Well I finally got tired of my Ultra PSU being the blame for hte destruction of my motherboard (though i dont feel that it is... but it may be), and now I feel a need to replace it. I dont feel like spending more than 80 bucks on one, so this is sorta tough to find one that will power my system without a hitch.

I actually just purchased a new case as well, the CoolerMaster Praetorian (black), and was planning to just shift all my parts to that case once it arrives (then rma the mobo). My rig is that in my sig, except that when I switch i will be replacing the video card with a leadtek 6600gt and possibly a 3rd 300gig maxtor. (as well as some white cathodes and led's :) [bought a side window].

Anyway... I'm looking for a psu that will give me what i need at the price range i want. I really like the tagan so far because of the very nice looking black finish. I am planning to sleeve the psu as soon as it arrives as well. If anyone has any other suggestions for psus that will power my system (believe me i've tried looking around for one at my price range and many seemed inadequate), please make your suggestion :)

heres the tagan btw: tagan

For that price, you can't do better than the Tagan for quality or low noise. It's a great power supply, and not just because of the finish.

The three year warranty is reassuring, too.

The Tagan is a good PSU but you may be on your own if you have a problem with it, Tagan's support has been non-existent lately. I'm going to recommend Seasonic, PCP&C or something based on a Forton (Zalman).

BTW, a (good) 350 watt PSU will drive you system with power to spare.

I need something a bit more substancial than 350 i think. In the end i plan to have about 2 more 300 gigers and am also looking to upgrade to a higher end pci-e later on, though never sli. I know there are some powerful 350 watters out there, but i feel something with quite a bit more headroom would be nice

WOW i never really noticed that psu. I'm very impressed. I may even go for even just the 410w one. Does it come sleeved?

i can't find any real information on these silencers other than whats on their website, would anyone happen to have a review of the 470 lurking around in their history lol. i checked out the 310 and 410 review from pcper and it looks like no sleeved cables.

The PCP&C Silencer line is based on the Seasonic Super Silencer; PC Perspective did a great review of the 360 and 410, LINK. I have the 360 right now it's a great PSU, they will sleeve it but they will charge $30-40 I think.

Yeah i read up on them and im pretty interested in picking one up now. I think that the 410 model is sufficient.

yeah they emailed me saying they'll charge 30 for the sleeving bringing the total to 130.. That's starting to look like a lot more than i was willing to spend, so i may really just order the tagan and sleeve it myself (50 bucks saved)... but i guess i lose my 36 month warrantee

Tagan's sold in North America only have a 1 year warranty, and you may not even get that. I defiantly go with the PCP&C over the Tagan, you can also check out the new Seasonic S12 series, it seems to have everything you?re looking for.

Also just for the record a good 350watt PSU will carry you?re system no problem. HD?s only draw a significant amount of power at spin up, during seek and idle they draw very little.

i took a good look at the pcp&c and found that it had 6 sata connectors and one mini... out of 12 leaving only 5 4-pin connectors.... which i think is not enough (dont wanna use y-splitters :b).

Just FYI, in Tom's Hardware's recent PSU shootout, Tagan PSU's were amongst the worst under load.

If you want a sleeved tagan look here.
BTW there are other brands available so shop around.

already looked there... ive been at this for nearly 2 days straight and im still undecided :(

i'm aware that there are other brands but the all black ones continually catch my eye (seasonic s12, pcp&c silencer and 510 series, tagan...)

Zalman's are based on Forton, doesn?t get any better that in terms of quality and design.

i think i may be able to get a tagan for about 60 (480w version), and if i do i will definitely just go for it and sleeve it myself... i guess ill find out in a few days. thankfully i still have 2 weeks before my mobo will come back once i ship it
