Need a new power supply - help!

My PSU just died (had a BFG GS-550 550W). Wondering two things:
1) Is it likely this damaged other components?
2) How big a PSU do I need (I thought 550W would be more than sufficient.. but maybe not?). Any particular recommendations (positive/negative)?

My machine is a HP Pavilion Elite m9250f (I bought it cheap enough it wasn't worth it to build one..) which has a Core 2 Quad Q6700 CPU, 4x 1GB RAM, and 2x500GB HDs (plus a few USB2 externals.. but those are separately powered). I upgraded the stock GPU to a Radeon HD 4890 850MHZ (upgraded the PSU at the same time).

1. If it died naturally without any external causes then most likely other components are not damaged. If it is struck by lightning for example then it might lead to damage of other components.
2. 550W is not really necessary as a 500W PSU should be sufficient to power that rig.

Get one of these and you're good to go.
