Both of my notebooks I paid big bucks for are out of warranty and heading tits up.

Both power sockets are loose (No one ever told us about that being THE most common failure point of a laptop rendering them useless). Imagine a $2,000 laptop being completely dependent on a .3 socket, that eventually ALWAYS fail.

The power sockets are a weak point obviously from what I have been reading. Ought a be agin the law kinda thing. Can't believe that I have to pay to have both motherboards replaced due to "f"d up $.03 power sockets. AND I AM VERY CAREFUL with my electronics.

I'd replace the power sockets myself, actually they don't need replacing.... they just need to be resoldered (some Jackarss figured 2 drops of solder was enough) but that is about as stupid as trying to rebuild a tranny out of a late model Dodge. They never go back together right and they always look like someone pried crap apart and stuck it back together.

Anyway... as irritating as it is... I am stuck now.

I need a new laptop or two.

Now I know what I DON'T want.... so here goes.

I DON'T want a laptop that has such a heavy screen that it eventually wears at the hinges/pivot points, and falls over unwanted due to its overweight.

I DON'T want a laptop that has a crappy power socket (if there even is one that exist)

I DON'T want a laptop that the key pads fall off after the first time you use the laptop for a round of counterstrike.

I DON'T want a laptop that has a screen so dim when running on a battery that you have to go into a the bathroom and close the doors and turn off the lights and cover the windows.

I DON'T want a laptop that has a latch that falls apart after opening and closing 300 times.

So..... what is your top pick of a robust laptop (gee.... imagine wanting that), that has decent speakers, and good size screen and NONE of the above? :)

Your pick is greatly appreciated. I want to replace my laptop before I lose important information (I do back up) on its hard drive because a "f"ing $.03 power socket failing.

Is there such a laptop? Or are we all just suckers?

I use my laptops for business, and pleasure. I like good sound (I currently have a Toshiba Satellite and the sound rocks for a notebook). I don't play games normally. I do record music and use to download photos, and do some editing. I want to go with dedicated video ram, and 1 gig ram on the MB.

CAN I BUILD MY OWN LAPTOP? Hmmmmmmm..... at least it would last.

Thanks!
