Need a new netbook.

1. Budget: $200-$350

2. Size: I want a NETBOOK. 9" - 11.6" at max.

3. Screen Res: I don't think this will matter much to me...

4. Reasons: Portability. My desktop is a Phenom II x4 with 4gb of ram. I don't need a powerful laptop ... hence a netbook.

5. Batt Life: More than the POS batt lief I got from HP Compaq.

6. Games: No No No No No. Solitare lol. My desktop is for gaming.

7. Uses: No video watching really, homework, internet, email that is it really.

8. HDD: I have an extra 100GB HDD from the dead laptop, but 50GB would be enough.

9. Sites: I don't think so. Newegg and that is it. I live in New York City, and I have two working legs. I can just walk to BestBuy or B&H and get a laptop.

10.Keep laptop for... Four or more years. I have a fan system for it from my old laptop. I plan to reuse.

11. Optical drive: Non needed if I am going to use a netbook.

12. Brands: EVERYTHING BUT HP/COMPAQ and ACER. HP/Compaq is trash, and I hope those bloody whoredogs rot in hell.

13. Country: United States of America.

14. Netbook preferred.

I live in New York City, and problems, they get fixed quickly.

I have been looking at the ASUS 1000HA ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834220584 ) and the MSI Wind U123 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834152109 ) ... I am looking at the Wind more closely however...

I also read AnandTech's review... and the major gain of the Wind over the 3Es is battery life.. but I will be near an outlet most of the time, and that test was demanding ._.! ~6hrs batt life is MORE than perfect. I am leaning more towards the 3Es 1005HA as a result :x

What do you guys think?

Edit: I have a AMD Phenom II x4 945 @ 3.0ghz, 4 gb of ddr3 ram, and a HD4850 card in my desktop at home. This a netbook would be perfect for the away from the supercomputer and at University. Optical drive not really needed. I have a 16GB flash drive and will just use the University's optical if needed.

I have an Acer Aspire One and it's a very high quality product. You've already counted them out though, your loss.

I also like Lenovo's S10-2.

A whole slew of new choices are coming when Win7 comes out next week. I would highly recommend adding Amazon to a site you would order from, they seem to have a better selection than Newegg right now.

So is an Intel Atom processor acceptable for you?

Oh Intel Atom is perfect. I won't be doing much more than some simple word processing and a bit of photoshopping on a small scale. My old laptop had an AMD 1.8ghz (but in nonbenching terms.. lets not get that complicated) then the Atom isnt much of a step down or up. I just need the portability. I was also planning on buying the laptop on Cyber Monday or during the holiday season where I could talk down the prices because they are really suffering up in NYC.
I was planning on buying the ASUS one from here because they are actually 5 blocks away (on my avenue!):

But Amazon... I ordered from Amazon and it took forever for my package to arrive. And it was all banged up. How is Amazon with returns and faulty items? Newegg is really good about that and if I buy it from a store, then I would not have to pay the shipping fees and what not.

So what exactly are you looking for in a netbook? So far from what you've said, you'd likely be ok buying the cheapest netbook you can find (that's not Acer or HP) from Newegg or anywhere you can walk.

When I suggested Amazon, I thought maybe you'd like something more powerful than an Atom. If you're looking for an Atom, they're roughly all the same. 1GB, 160GB HD, XP Pro, etc. Mostly just the battery that differentiates.

Ah. I need it just for schoolwork and some light video watching and a bit of photoshopping. If the only difference between them is battery then I might go with the 6-cell ASUS because I played with the keyboard at the BestBuy just a while ago and I like it. The wind they had was broken so bleh.

My previous laptop has a single core AMD 1.8ghz processor, an onboard nvidia 6100GO, 1gb of ddr2 ram, and a 15.4 inch screen with a 100gb hdd... if I can get a netbook with those same specs (like the asus and msi i mentioned) has, then I am pretty much set.

Sorry if it seems like this was a waste, you know responding and my stubbornness, but I need ideas x_x badly.

Also can someone mention anything about more Cyber Monday? Do you think prices for laptop will be shaved down then because of this recession and stuff?

One of the best netbooks I've used and delivers gobs of battery life is the Toshiba NB305. One of my favorite features is the pretty big touchpad that no other netbook seems to have.

I've got an Aspire One also and I like it. They're cheap and I've only had mine for a couple of weeks now, but I like it.
