I need a cheap MP3 player to use while I run. I am not a big music guy so it doesn't need to be anything extravagent. I was looking at the Sansa Clip with a pair of Seinehieser CX300's. I would like to keep the player in the area of $50 or less and the headphones in the neighborhood of $20. I hate iTunes with a passion so Ipod's are out. Used is fine for the player but the headphones need to be new.

Clip would be great, and those headphones are solid BUT make sure you buy them from amazon itself and not the marketplace. The CX300s are being copied and convincing clones are being sold all over the place.

That's why I am getting new ones. It seems fake headphones of all varieties are running rampant. How about the Sansa Fuze? Any better or worse?

I run on a treadmill so I think the in-ear style would be better to block out all the noise. If I ran outside where ambient noise was needed to be heard then something like the Vapor's would be nice. But for indoor use with all the racket of a treadmill I think something like the Seinehieser's, Skullcandy, or the like would be better.

I don't like IEM's for running. I tend to get a thumping in my ears as I run. I went with the Sennheiser MX75 sport headphones. They work really well for the gym, although they sound a little muddy normally.

Zen V plus, $18

I bought the player for my father in law and it has great sound and is tiny...

Headphones - that's a very personal choice. As pointed out, in ear monitors (The kind you stick into your ears, not the ipod kind) are a bit difficult to work out with if you're jogging. I'd suggest something like the koss sportapro or other around the head headphones. Koss, senheiser (px100, i think is the model?) and other make nice "street" headphones.. The koss are about $20.

Well you guys have convinces me so normal buds are out. These are ugly as hell but get generally good reviews. The Nike's look better but the reviews are generally bad. I am leaning towards the MX75's at this point.

Ended up getting the MX75's to go with the 8GB Clip. Best $75 I have spent I have spent in a long time. They are both very light weight so I don't even notice them. The sounds quality is good once the headphones are properly fitted. The are very comfortable and do a good job keeping out external sound. Overall very very satisfied.

Enjoy your Clip while it lasts. Based on my experience with 2 (I gave up after 2) of them, you'll be good to go for at least 1-2 months before that cheap POS takes a dump. Worst MP3 player made. It's cheap for a very good reason. Because it's a CHEAP POS!

Enjoy :)

I am looking for a cheap mp3 player to host mp3's on for my garage stereo.

For running I loved my 512MB creative zen. Tiny and came with an armstrap. I don't like the larger iPod sized devices for running.
