Well my Soyo Dragon Plus kicked the dirt last night and I am in need of a new motherboard and all that goes with it. What is the latest and greatest stable MB?

I need to get something ASAP.

Thanks,

Mattax

Is there something wrong with the thread labeled "The Ultimate Motherboard Selection Guide" ?

What socket do you need? AGP or PCIe? Do you care about onboard sound? Need 1 or 2 NICs? Passive or active chipset cooling? Do you overclock? Do you game?

What the heck is a Soyo Dragon Plus anyway?

No, I won't Google it. You didn't read the Ultimate Motherboard Selection Guide, so I'm not Googling your late mobo. :)

Thanks for the replies. I have been away from the forums for a while and am getting back into the lost art of the computer world...

AMD CPU

PCI-E

I will purchase a sound card/ system.

What is active/passive chipset?

Yes, I game, it was posted earlier in the thread.

No overclocking.

Soyo Dragon Plus Motherboard aprox 4 yrs old. Don't bother to look it up, I do not want to replace it, I want to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

Thanks,

You can find a really good psu guide here.

To answer your question, taken from the guide above: "APFC [Active Power Factor Correction] makes use of "fancy circuitry" to create a dynamic power regulator (meaning that you dont have to select the voltage). Between two otherwise identical PSUs, one the one featuring APFC is the superior choice (this statement is made purely from a technical perspective, whether or not you specifically need APFC is an issue to be tackled later)
