:( I need your help. My monitor just died on me and I need to get a new one. Would like a 19 inch flat screen...one that doesn't take up too much space and one that doesn't take my whole paycheck! Can anyone help me??

No substitute for a quality monitor. I've got a Sony 19" E400-GREAT! Absolutley no complaints. Around $450 at Circuit City and Best Buy. Should be less if you check on line. Keep it one year and its $1.25 per day, WHAT A DEAL!

1 - If you didn't see how he set the parameter for not so expensive! Sonys are definitely not going to be cheap if you want them. Sonys are the MOST expensive monitors out... besides flat panels but that is something totally different.

I suggest the Samsung 900 nf or 900 ift.

I'm considering the NEC AS95F.....it's a 19" flat screen shadow mask tube......Probably not the best monitor you can find, but it has decent refresh rates and it is a flat screen monitor.

Buy.com had it listed for $258 last week but that deal is over.....

Well, I put down $500 for the Sony CPD-E400, and I am in awe of the image quality. Not only are the colors bright and clear, the tube is completely flat. I dare anyone to compare the image quality of any flat-panel monitor to this thing! Why did I spend so much when I could have spent less for 19"? Well, to put it simply, I've never had a Sony product break on me. I'm willing to pay for such a reliable brand name!

You want a flat screeen (aperture grille) monitor? There are two main producers. One is Sony (Trinitron). The other is Mitsubishi (Diamondtron NF or Natural Flat). It goes into the Viewsonic PF series, NEC Diamond Plus (and some Pros), Iiyana VisionMaster Pro series, Samsung SyncMaster NF series, the upper end Dell, their own Diamondpro series, and probably a few others. Various brands have have different controls and features, like USB ports. I have a Viewsonic PF790, love it, and it was cheap (at least here in town). I refused to buy mail order, because I couldn't see them, the return problems, and with the $40 or more shipping it wasn't that much more buying retail.

The rest of you really like the Sony E series? I have found them lower quality than the Diamondtrons, but the G series to be slightly better than the Diamondtrons (and more expensive). The F even better still, but you only can get them 21 inches and up and for amazing prices.

Dont count me in. Im a fan of the KDS AV-195TF and Samsung SyncMaster 900NF.

You also missed Acer, they're also one of the manufacturers who uses the DiamondTron NF.

I've bought two E-200's... currently on one of them. I must say that the flatness absolutely kicks arse, and the color saturation is beyond compare. Everytime I look at other monitors it seems as if there is a thin dull-white foggy layer compared to this baby. Never had any problems with Sony, so I stick with them.

I have bad eyesight so I don't hold back on my monitors.

Ahh, the KDS AV series uses Trinitron tubes. Forgot to add that too. They are the only ones I know Sony licences from. Anyone know any others?

I've been checking out all the suggestions about the monitor. My budget is about $300 to $350. I know that's a wide range, but from everyone's comments, I think I better up my spending allotment. Anyone of any specials that will be coming up on any of these babies?? Can't hurt to ask, eh??

ragiepew- considering how your monitor is a little on the older side and is not as good as the Samsung I am getting, you can kiss my butt. Next lan, we'll see who's monitor is better, but that won't be for a long time. We should set something up for Thanksgiving. Sorry, a little bit off topic:)

hehe, we do need to lan up sometime... anyway back to the point... i dont know how you say i have an "old" monitor... its a Sony G400 last i checked... seems pretty new to me. Also, id like to see how much crisper and colorful the graphics look on that samsung look than on the sony. Last i checked, reviews agreed that the text was better on the samsung but the image quality was better on the g400... it depends on what your using it for... specs v. specs... the g400 has the 900nf beat (for lower dot pitch, higher resolution support @ higher Hz, secondary input). Plus doesent Mitsu make the Diamondtron tube not Samsung (i could be wrong there though).
