Need a new Mobo and processor

I am thinking of going 1 Ghz...what is the best board out there with a reasonable price, i am not too interested in overclocking but may try it. I also just got the Coolermaster ATC-201 case and am looking to soop it up inside 🙂 Any suggestions? I want a lot of feedback, and even places to buy this stuff.

I would look at the T-bird/Duron and MSI socket A board.

Yes but I want a board without onboard sound....unless the onboard sound it really good?

You can just disable the onboard sound. Most of the newer motherboards seem to have onboard sound.
BTW the onboard sound sucks.

hmm

it's been said many places and times
that abit boards and asus boards (socket a's)
hate sb live cards...........don't ask me why.

I'm using an sblive mp3 card in the MSI K7t Pro2a right now
and it runs flawlessly and faster than anything I've ever
used. currently running tbird 900 processor

I also recommend the IBM 75gxp ata100 drives as the
optimal choice for ata100. Wicked fast and eerily quiet
(runs pretty cool too)

Get a good cooler if yer gonna do a 1ghz with this board.
I recommend the Globalwin FOP32-1 for great cooling at reasonable prices
or the Kanie Hedgehog (copper hsf) for no holds barred cooling but
at a high cost.

as far as sources, I recommend Onvia or buy.com for the processor and the hard drives.
when they have a good coupon and one in stock
I recommend Lynncomp.com for the boards
I recommend Directron for the fan/heatsink

Zulu, thanks for the info, I am looking to make a wicked system here since I want to look good when I go to a LAN party LOL. I am probably going to get that MSI K7T Pro board since I have a MSI BX mobo now, and I love it. I think I am going to take my old machine and make it a Linux box...WOOHOO. I have the case now, and going to get the Mobo as soon as I can scrap up some $$. What memory should I use? Is there PC200 memory yet? Or should I go Pc133? All I need is a Mobo, Memory, and Processor, have my Voodoo5 and SB Live! to switch over, Already have a 7200 HD 20 gb drive, and a CDrom and burner 🙂.
