Need a new macbook/pro

A friend of mine is going to be getting a new Macbook in the next couple weeks. He already has a new copy of Leopard-- is it possible to buy a Macbook that doesn't come with the OS (to save some $$)?

Also, when is the Macworld Expo? Should I expect prices to drop if I wait?

Apple doesn't ship computers without an OS. Your only option for saving money would be to buy a used Macbook. However, you'll miss out on iLife 08, which ships with all new and refurbished Macs.

More commonly than dropping prices, Apple will offer a machine with upgraded spec's at the same price. With as hot as Apple computers are right now, I doubt that they will be dropping prices anytime soon.

He should wait until the Apple store online has the $1699 MacBook Pro or $849 MacBook. He can sell his retail Leopard DVD package to someone who needs it for $75 or so to offset his purchase price.
