My AddAction.net account is due April 1st. I have until the end of this month to renewe or find another host. AddAction.net was a good deal at the time, but I want to find something better - it allowed multiple domains but they weren't managed very well.

Any suggestions?

That's because it's a VIRTUAL web hosting account really intended to host a single domain. Add-on domains is a nice feature but it's messy with it's sub-folders, etc.

What you want is a RESELLERS account which keeps your domains separate, giving each domain it's own cPanel, email/FTP/MySQL, and you also receive your own personalized name servers FOR FREE:
ns1.antisource.com
ns2.antisource.com

Some budget reseller recommendations are:
dathorn.com - Very popular among AT'ers but they are not perfect. They host neffing.com.

UltraUnix.net (NYR2500) gives you 2.5GB/25GB for $13.99 per month. I've been with them for about 2 months, they host fox302.com and bang for your buck it's hard to beat them. Server specs are Dual XEON, 2GB RAM, 2x36GB SCSI (most web hosts use P4's with IDE). My web hosting clients are also thrilled that it comes with Fantastico auto installer scripts for all of your domains. Install forums, pichosting, blog with a few clicks of your mouse.

Another option is I could get you a resellers account with 4GB disk space, 50GB bandwidth but NO TECH SUPPORT for $25/mo located on a dedicated server at The Planet data center.

Or if you want super cheap "CyberWings" like hosting you could try the WHT hosting offers forum filled with 14 year old web hosts ;)

Woohoo! RossMAN to the rescue! I might have to try that ultraunix... a little more than what I wanted to spend per month right now, but since it's a resellers account I could just resell some space to people I know looking for a website. :)

Yep. I know a few AT'ers who signed up for UU reseller accounts.

Most of them sell small $5/mo web hosting accounts to 3 people = $15/mo - $13.99 = FREE WEB HOSTING for your stuff :)

Or find someone gullible enough to pay the $15.00 a month for their 1 site ;)

Those people exist :)

Last month I signed up a local dry cleaner shop to what I call my "small business basic package"
  • $200 for a 2 page simple web site design (outsourced to a web design firm, I get $40 they get $160 and I resell it under my brand name - I owe thanks to this idea to lilcam)
  • $0 setup fee if they pre-pay for 6 months which they did
  • $15 per month for 100MB/2GB with only email, webmail, and FTP. No cPanel is offered since all their pages are HTML static with a little PHP.

I am definitely going to hit the small business market HARD.

Every local small business should have their own web site with pictures, directions, a menu or list of services, contact information, PDF's, custom email adresses, coupons, custom newsletter, etc.

I've got a reseller's account that I was trying to resell here, but the thread got locked down because it was selling a "service" which isn't allowed here
rolleye.gif
Anyway, I'll host your entire domain for free on my Ultraunix.net account. :) If you own a domain, great. If not, i'll give you a subdomain until you get one.

Yea, these ppl exist. The hard part is trying to persuade new customers to switch host. They're paying $30/month for 200MB/10GB bandwidth, where someone like yourself can charge them $15/month if you want. They'll ask why is it cheaper and they'll think it's too good to be true. I think these type of people somehow get brainwash to believe they need 10GB of bandwidth for a basic HTML site.

$200 for 2 pages? WOW ... I must be low balling myself.

I try to make the transition between web hosts as smooth as possible.

99% of the time (unless it's a huge or complex web site) I offer to move my clients web sites for FREE.

Actually I get charged $160 then I pad it with my $40 finders fee ;)

Looks like a good deal - but that host is in Russia... once I go international, I lose any legal recourse.

Russia?

Try Malaysia.

dathorn.com is based in the USA with servers located in the USA.
