One of my hds just died, so i need a replacement. I have 3 seagate cheetah scsi u2w drives, well now 2, and I want to replace them with a single big ide because of cost. I don't know much about what drives are out now, so what would you guys recommend that would be as fast as these and quiet? or at least as close to both as possible?

think you've answered your own question.. 😉seagate

Don't rule out the Samsung Spinpoint drives -- cooler and quieter than the latest Seagates. Maybe a tiny bit slower, though.

200gb seagate (using 100gb platters) looks decent. samsungs are more silent (especially seeks) and generally as fast but only available upto 160GB. I have recent drives from both - AAM is adjustable on the samsungs to make seeks silent, but seagates have it disabled so I can always hear seeks from it.
