need a new haircut...supercuts...tipping...?

For the last 8 years I've been getting my hair cut by a friend with a clippers and the attachments. However I'm looking for something new and want to try out getting my hair cut by a professional with a scissors so I don't get such frizzed hair. Anywho, the only place I've ever heard of around here (East Bay, CA) is Supercuts. Are they any good? Also what is the deal with tipping the person who cuts your hair? What is the going rate for a tip and do I have to tip? TIA

go to Great Clips in San Leandro, its in the Green House Market place (i think thats what its called). pretty good barbers there.

Dude, dont' go to Supercuts. For kids that's ok, but if you're over 14, go to a barber or hairstylist. As for tipping, i normally give $1 tip to the person that washes my hair, and 20% for the haircut.

Good advice.

I recently switched from Supercuts to Great Clips. The hair stylists seem to be way better trained, friendlier and do a better job.

Plus Great Clips is cheaper, $11 vs SuperCuts $12.95

The tip nazis around here say you have to tip for ALL services (doctor visits included). Most of my haircuts are $7, $8, or $9 and I just hand them a $10 bill. If they were rude, I'll ask for change back.

Do you call for appointments at these places like Great Clips or Supercuts? Thanks for the advice and help so far. I guess I'll just round up to the nearest dollar or two for a tip. Or I'll just stick with the clippers (1" on top, 1/2" on the sides blended in🙂 )

great clips doesn't take appointments (at least the 5 around here don't). I used to go to them a lot but the price has risen to like $15 here in Walnut Creek because they think everyone's rich and can pay $15 for a 5 minute haircut. Anyways, my sister cuts my hair now, I just wash her car on the weekends in return.

My barber shop is $8, I give him 10 and tell him to keep the change.

You can make appointments a supercuts, but usually it's easier to just walk in.

Haircut around here is $11. I give $15 and let them keep the change. Ihave been there enough they remember me, maybe not by name or such, but they still know. And take a guess what, I have never gotton a bad haircut there.
Same go's with pizza haulers. I did that for a short while in college and I remembered all the good AND bad tippers. So dod the other drivers. Don't ask what we did to their orders, and yes it does happen.

Haircut = $11
Tip = $ 4
Not having a head that looks like a poodle = Priceless

I guarantee you, delivery guys remember who the good and bad tippers are, even years later. I remember driving with some friends past a neighborhood we use to deliver for, and i still remembered who the good tippers and bad ones were.
