Hi ,

I going to buy a new Graphics card on Friday for my mother PC. The System is pretty old and i only have money to update the Graphics card because she wants to play Games like
" The Sims 2 " - " Broken Sword " - " Final Fantasy XI " .

The System is as follows :-

Motherboard - Abit NF7 v2.0
CPU - AMD Athlon 3200+ XP
RAM - 2 x 1Gb GeIL DDR400
Graphics Card - GeForce FX 5200 AGP

I can only Buy an AGP Card , have about £70.00 / $140.00 .

I dont play game and dont really know that much about Graphics cards and know Nothing at all about ATI Cards .

Without any advice at the moment my choice would probably be a second hand GeForce 6800 GT for about £50/60 .

Does anyone know any better ATI or nVIDIA cards new or used ?

I wouldn't toss a 6800GT in there as it'd be a lil more than needed but a 6600GT on the otherhand would fit in perfectly with that system for the mentioned games.

Disagree.

I've ran one in an Athlon XP2600 system, it was fine. Could turn up all the details at 1074 x 768, which is always nice. Any additional graphics horsepower is never unwelcome in any game on any system.

For the price he/she indicated, a 7600GT would be fine.

Yes i am in the UK , So would it be a nVIDIA over ATI card best for a Athlon 3200 and NF7 Board ?

Would either of these cards from my local PC Shop perform better than a 6600GT/6800GT ?

256MB GeForce 8500GT AGP @ £57.99
256MB GeForce 7600GT AGP @ £70.00

I basically want to know if its better to buy a Mid Range New model Graphics card over a Top Range older model ?
Any card i buy will proberly be used for the next 2 years or so , so i am looking for some overkill so it can keep up with newer games .

The 7600 would, as long as it's definitely a GT and not a GS. The 8500 is a crap card.

I wouldn't bother with an ATI card of that generation, sucks too much power for a system that old. You may want to check the 7600GT's requirements and the PSU in your mother's PC beforehand as well.

I have a similar system and I was using a plain Geforce 6800 and I've played all those games you mention on high settings. So like others said your best bet is a 6600gt or 6800. Good thing they are cheap.

Theres also a

nVIDIA GeFORCE 7300GT AGP 8X DVI/TVOUT @ £51.21

Does anyone know how that would compare against a 6600GT/6800GT ?

EDIT: Sorry i already know its not worth buying just checked some reviews on it .
