Keyboards are becoming my only tools of trade in gaming, as I am getting more serious about learning how to play 2d fighters and practicing combos. Oftentimes I feel my current keyboard is the limiting factor in performing manuvers consisting of quick succession of keystrokes (e.g. air dash low with repetitive shieding). My poor dell chokes at too many keys being pressed at once due to its 3-key rollover nature and ignores part of my input. My friends (or adversaries in action) seem to fare very well with ps2 controllers connected thru USB adapters, but those things hurt my hand and I cant even win against the computer using them
Upon research, I found out none of the widely available MS/Logitech products seem to be able to meet the criteria. A few japanese manufacturers have established solid reputation in that department, namely Topre, Omnikey and Cherry. However, their keyboards aren't exactly cheap reaching $400 on ceratin models, and availability in the US is questionable. Several other names popped up with more reading, which I thought would have more user base in the US:
Razer Tarantula
Razer Reclusa
Zboard
Raptor Gaming K1/K2
Again, the focus is on n-key rollover and responsiveness aspects. FPS games pretty much have vanished from my computer, and I dont plan on installing another one anytime soon. FPS games may benefit from different such as customizable macro keys, but I really couldnt care less about the bells and whistles unless they come without extra cost incurred. Price is definitely a concern, I would definitely want soemthing under $80 if possible.
Realizing what a truly niche market this would be, I am not expecting a thorough side-by-side comparison of any sor; this really is a longshot. Any first hand experience will do, please chime in to share your experiences. TIA.
