I mainly play FPS games, Quake series, HL2, COD, etc. I want to try something different, maybe a RPG, or something that all your doing is solving puzzles and the like. I went to the store last night and looked and looked, but realized I had no clue what to get. I looked at things like Neverwinter Nights, Axis and Allies, Lord of the Rings and several others. Does anybody have a suggestion of a good game to pick up? I guess I'm really wanting something that will challenge my mind instead of my dexterity, and still be fun at the same time.

Maybe look over to Adventures - Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, or Beyond Good and Evil. They not too challenging, but are a nice change of pace from FPS.

For strategy, look at Civ IV. RPGs, Neverwinter Nights Platinum, Morrowind, Planescape, and surely a dozen others that I'm forgetting now.

If your looking for adventure games here is a good list:
The Longest Journey
Monkey Island(Old Game)
Myst-Very hard...and boring but peole that like them..really like them

RTS:

StarCraft
Warcraft

TTS:
Give Civ4 a try, apparently it rules

There are some good puzzle game adventures on the consoles but I dont know if you have one or not. I wouldnt recommend The Lord of the Rings games..they kinda suck in my opinion.

If you really want to play some hard core gamage...go with a MMORPG. I suggest Eve or EQ...WoW maybe if its your first

Thanks for the suggestions. diego, I was looking at NWN plat last night, there was also the gold and diamond versions. The gold and plat boxes were heavy, like there were lots of guides, and cost $10 more than the diamond, which was didn't have the guides, but had more modules. Which should I get, being a noob to this type of game?

I believe Diamond would be your best bet - it has platinum, plus a little bit of content. Unless you're desperate for the manuals, then go with Platinum. There is plenty of online guides/tutorials to help you if you need assistance getting started, too.

NP. Check back in and let us know how you like it, once you're a few hours in.

Picked it up Friday, installed it and went right to the manual (in PDF). I was a little overwhelmed by all the info and started thinking maybe this was a bit too much to get involved with, but I finally fired the game up and was suprised to find that it plays a lot like the Diablo series. I played both of those, but didn't finish either of them because they became a bit too tedious for my taste. I quickly realized that this game is much more complex than Diablo, and went ahead and started my first quest. I'd have to say so far I do like it, but it will be a game that is going to take me a very long time to get through. I have a habit of exploring EVERYTHING in any game I play, and there is much to explore here! Also, without having a manual at my side I'll probably never realize my characters full potential, unless I take notes from the PDF. It's not quite what I was expecting, but it's challenging and will easily keep me occupied over the winter months.
