Need a new game for my 360

So I've finished Mass Effect on my new 360 and LOVED it! Decided to get another game and got the original Gears of War. I HATED it. I think I really like the combination of story and action in ME compared to just a shooting game. What else out there is similar to ME in terms of story telling etc? I was thinking Fallout 3 but it's a bit pricey. Is there anything else that might suit me? I don't mind getting an older game, and I do have a $50 GC at Newegg to use up...

I was at Best Buy today and they had Oblivion GOTY (the one that includes the expansions) for $30. I've been waiting for that one to drop for a while, so I snagged it quickly as it was the last copy.

Dont rule out Xbox games either.

Did you ever play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? Great game. Was also made by Bioware, the same people that made Mass Effect.

Bioshock is definitely refreshing. My GOTY for 2007. Try it if you havent already.

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. I already have Oblivion on my laptop (although I never finished it). I may check out KOTOR and Bioshock though.

I'm only a few hours into fallout 3, but I'm pretty torn between oblivion and fallout. I definitely prefer the shooting gameplay of fallout 3 and the fact that the game is great without mods. However after having the rolling hills, grasslands, trees, etc of Oblivion the world in fallout 3 is just ugly. I know that's the point but it's still pretty boring to see nothing but grey and brown.

Oblivion's world was the most boring world I've ever seen in an WRPG.

since you just started let me give you a tip. Don't take the perk that gives you 10% more xp per level. But do take the one that gives you 3 extra skill points per level. If you take the 10% more xp perk you will just hit the level cap sooner and miss out on 3 other perks you could have chosen.

 Will do. Anything else worth noting? I plan on focusing on a few areas like small guns, lockpicking, and maybe stealth. Are there certain ones that are bullshit and never come into play?

From what I've read there are some serious issues with KOTR on the 360. Horrible framerate drops, sound dropping out, static noises.

FYI: If you can find a store that actually has it in stock, Fallout 3 is $39 at Target for both 360 and PS3 this week, supposedly.

Fallout 3 is great, although I am in the "Oh yeah, well Oblivion was better" camp I think. Both are great games.

Bioshock is definately a winner. I don't like scary games but it was fantastic, that and Resident Evil 4 are the only "horror" games I've enjoyed, although Bioshock wasn't all that horrific.

You also might try Assassin's Creed. It's more of an adventure game but with a large world to explore, very free roaming as well.

Yeah, Oblivion or Fallout 3 are really good choices if you liked Mass Effect. I actually started anew in Oblivion last week and am hooked all over again. I tried something different and am playing a Thief...something I've rarely if ever done in RPGs. I'm basically using this go around to do parts of the game that I never did in my previous two plays.

Yeah, the only things I missed (if I recall) my first time through Oblivion were Thieves Guild, Mages Guild, and The Dark Brotherhood (which, granted, is a big part of the game). I need to buy Oblivion again and go through it.

I'm with you, 99% of the time when I play an RPG I'm the "warrior" class character, whatever it may be called. I've never really done the mage/thief/ranger thing. The exception to the rule being Diablo 2, where I had about 3 of every class...

For your attacks Small Guns probably has the most usefulness throughout the game as ammo is always plentiful and the guns are probably the best spread of power. The 10mm pistol is the first weapon you get in the game, and the upper level Small Guns (especially the unique guns) pack more punch than any of the energy weapons raw-damage wise. Skip out on unarmed and melee completely unless you just wanna try something new. Big Guns (I hear) is overrated.

Definately get lock pick, it's MUCH more useful than Science (although both are handy at points), I think both of mine are almost maxed out now. Don't go overboard on Strength, it's nice to carry stuff but that's about it. Don't put alot of points into Barter as it's nice early on when you're low on caps, but later on none of the merchants will have enouch $$ to pay you (and you really won't need them to). Also, get lots of inteligence as it too will add to your available skill points on every level (I think I started with 7 or 8). Also, having a high speech skill will let you get through the game alot easier, although it might also make you miss a quest or two.

Also, don't put 100 points into any skill, as through the land there's skill books and bobbleheads that will raise them. Get the perk that adds 3 skill points (as mentioned), and later get the perk that doubles the skill points you get from books. With that, technically you can get 50 (or half of the available) skill points for every skill just through books. So technically if you had the time/desire to do so you could get most of your skills to 40/100 and boost all of them to 100 through books/bobbleheads, but that would take forever. I'm at lvl 17 and I'm now to the point where I'm getting skills I didn't really plan to use as I've got most of my main skills where I want/need them.

Another vote for KOTOR. If you liked Mass Effect, KOTOR is just as good. Also available on the PC.
