I have a pioneer dvr-111d, and i think its on its way out. Getting bad burns left and right with both good and cheap media. What burner does everyone recommend that isn't too picky on media?

when i read the title, i was going to come in here and recommend the pioneer 111D... im sorry to hear you're having such an icky time with it! I couldn't be happier with mine.

Try flashing the firmware with The Dangerous Brothers's latest third party firmware... it has all sorts of little tweaks, especially for dual layer media. Link: http://tdb.rpc1.org/

hmm give it a try. I have mine at TDB's 1.23 and it has worked flawlessly, so I took the "if it aint broke, dont fix it" approach and never updated again... lol

edit: I think the 8.29 firmware is just the 1.29 for the "Buffalo" re-branded drives... so if yours is definitely PIONEER, i'd stick with 1.23 or 1.29.

Benq from dw800 on up to 1655 ..1670 is not nice.. my current fave is TSST drives ...using a SH-S182D(haven't tried dvd-ram yet) along with a 1655 oem out of an iomagic box ... gl :)

Just bought a SH-S182D for a friend, a few days ago, can't beat the price and features!
Still like the NEC AD-7170 formyself!
