Need a new digicam - any canon's folks want to chime in? Thinking between sd700is, sd750 and sd800is.

There's been mixed reviews between the sd800is and the sd700is, I was leaning towards the 700is but it's so hard to find these days. Would the sd750 be a good camera? I just want a good easy point and shoot camera, I would love the IS function but unfortunately the sd750 does not have it. :(

If not that, any other camera I should look into? I want to stick with whatever staples carry since I have a coupon with them.

I'd get the 800, but this probably would be better off in the camera forum.

I have been trying out my new Sd800is and for a compact camera it is awesome it will never replace a DSLR but it is so easy to carry you will end up using it more than you think. If you want or need a little more lens the sd850is 28mm vs 35mm is also a good choice.

I don't think the sd850is has the wide angle lens/shot thing the 800is has. I am a complete noob though so I might be talking out of my ass. But assuming this is true, what makes the 850is "better" than the 800is besides megapixelage.

yeah from what I've read, only the 800is has the wide angle lens, no the 850is, again this is off of memory from what I read online.

Seems like the general consensus is to get the IS, that leaves me with the sd700is and the sd800is, time to do some bargain hunting :)

While you're at it - check out the S3 IS - about $350 - an awesome 12X zoom.

What does the IS do? I just bought an SD750 from amazon because of the awesome price ($250 shipped) and larger screen but it doesnt have IS. I can still cancel and change my order to the slightly more expensive SD800.

IS/SR/VR --> basically its a sy stem which tries to counter the minior shake of your hand as you take a picture. Its nice in low light situations because images come out less blurry. Of course if your hand is flailing left and right it won't matter, but if you have tiny barely noticable movements it makes quite a difference

Have the SD800IS; pretty great for a compact.

If you want to see what it can do; check out the My friend Ed's wedding pictures that i took on it at www.nrshah.org/index2.htm

There are both bright day pictures, inside pictures taken with flash and without, and some dark inside pictures, taken mostly with flash. I'm fairly satisfied with the camera.

Image Stabilization damps minor hand movements and shakes. It is mostly useful when shotting low light and telephoto. Essentially it is based on a small gyroscope that likes to preserve its position.

For most P&S work with a 3X zoom, it doesn't amount to much. But with a 12X zoom and ISO 800 or higher, it is very useful.
