My stupid bank has denined my 4th request for a higher limit on my Visa Card. Ever since I've had the card (over two years) I have put the maximum amount I'm allowed to on it and have consistantly paid the whole card off every month. Every time I call in with a request they tell my debit to income ratio is too high but that's because I put the maximum amount on my card that it allows. In the first three months I had the card I requested a higher amount and they gave me it. But now I don't get what's up and want to say goodbye. So I need a new card. I would like to continue to have a visa card and would like one that would payme back every year, offer good protection, and have excellent customer service. Any ideas?

Put your card away for three months, don't spend a dime on it.

THEN apply for a limit increase.

I've had the limit on my first credit card increased from $1,200 to $2,800 (two $800 increases) in less than a year, & I've consistently carried a fairly high balance. I make huge payments, & run a lot of money through the card (Paying $800-1,100 a month on it).

I dunno what your bank's problem is.

I wish I could put the card away for a couple of months but I need it to make some extra money. It's hard buying stuff to sell if you don't have a card to use so I really need one. Just sick of being denied. Anyways, their customer service and hours stink as well so I really need a new card.

I currently don't have any debt of any kind. I Paid off my student loans a couple of years ago along with my car. I make plenty of money but I just don't understand what up with deying me credit. I've checked my credit ratings last year after I paid off my student loand and everything was fine. I even ranked very high.

Something else I forgot to mention...

Do you have any other debt? Other cards, vehicle loans, etc?

How much money do you make? How high is the limit on your card?

<< I don't recommend MBNA >>

Why? I've had a card with them for 4 or 5 years now. No problems. They upgraded my card to a platinum card while I was a student and have raised my limit to $13,000 (in stages over the years) without me ever asking, and without me having a prayer of paying off $13,000.

And it's a cool looking card too! Has Buzz, Georgia Tech's mascot, on it.

When I was 18, they called me begging that I take their Platinum Mastercard with a $6K limit. I accepted. I then proceeded to obtain a $25,000 credit line for Microsoft and an American Express Gold Corporate card with an unlimited credit line. At 20 years of age, my credit rating is probably better then my parents!

Moral of the story? Don't always hang up on telemarketers right away. :)

MBNA is the worst one in my 5 credit cards. It has the highest APR. Being a MBNA card holder for 3 years, they give me a 15.4% APR, while my other 4 cards generally range from 7.9% to 13.9%.

cmf21 - I would take a deep breath and listen to Viper GTS's sound advice. I go could go into a long lecture on why you're wrong but you probably wouldn't listen anyways so I'm not gonna.

You've already got a cc which perfectly works for you but you're going to close it and get another? IF you're approved I hope you don't think you're going to get a HIGHER limit than your current. Why? They're going to take one look at your credit report and think DESPERATE (come on, 4 credit increases? - unless these were stretched over a time period of 5 years it seems pretty excessive). Everytime you request a credit increase regardless of if it's approved or declined it shows as an inquiry on your credit report. So by applying AGAIN for another VISA you're going to put a FIFTH inquiry on your credit report, LOL.

I'd recommend either the CitiBank Dividend Platinum Select (1% rebates, no annual fee, reasonable rates and great customer service) or their Drivers Edge Platinum Select card (2% rebates to be used towards ANY new car).

Wait for your decline letter which entitles you to a free copy of your credit report, order it and see why exactly you were declined and be responsible in taking steps to fix those errors.
