Need a new CELL

Well i've got Cingular, i'm ready for an upgrade, but i'm going to add some lines to my account as well, so i'll do it all at the same time. I am in bad need of a new cell as mine tends to 'not want to talk anymore' and just drops the call. Has NEVER happened w/ my wifes phone. Mine prolly got damaged somehow by the last factory i worked in.

Anyhow, i now have a Sony Z520a, pretty decent i guess, but i'm looking to get something different. Was leaning toward the Samsung D807, but...i don't like how close the buttons are to the top when you slide it open. I'm looking into the Sony W810...can get it for about $80 ($130 before rebate) and i *think* i like it, altho all i've held is a 'demo' not a real one so i don't know about weight on it and if i like the menu or not. I don't really care that much for my Z520's menu that much, so i'm hesitant on another Sony, it also uses those proprietary (expensive) mem stick duo's instead of the transflash cards. PLEASE HELP ME!

Ok, heres what i want in a phone...

Good reception
Decent looks
MP3 player (preferred)
don't give a ****** about camera/video
non-pda
non-bulky

I can recommend the W810i. It has two complaints you'll find when you do some research.

1) Low earpiece volume. Hasn't been an issue for me but I can imagine if I was in a crowded subway it would be difficult to hear. Note that if you use a headset in these situations its a moot point.

2)Static noise when playing MP3s. Some have it, some don't. Or maybe just some people can't hear it. I can hear mine but it really doesn't bother me too much. Everyone is hoping that someone will hack the firmware to fix it. Its really just a minor background thing but some can't handle it.

The incremental cost on the memory sticks is minimal. Don't let that sway you. Just think of all the people buying them for PSPs. I now have a Sony Cybershot W50 and its neat that if I run out of space on my 512mb stick in my camera, I can swap in the 2gig from my phone (which cost less than 20 bucks).

wow...where'd you pick up a 2G duo for $20?? ^_^

And yes, i will be using a bluetooth headset (given, not all the time but...) and Mp3' player i probably won't use too terribly much, i mainly want it for in between classes. My ol' Dell DJ 20GB finally broke on me...argh!

Deals and rebates. Just keep an eye out. If you end up getting the 810, make sure you get a screen cover (couple bucks on ebay)

I have a w810i myself. Love it. The earpiece volume can be fixed with a hack. Mine is Cingular's version but I unlocked/unbranded it. Loaded different themes on it and have a different driver installed for the volume which is great. Just bought a new housing for it so well see how that works out.

I have looked into the LG CU500, and didn't really care for the button placement.

So, i'm between the Sync and the W810i now. ^_^

the Sync uses MicroSD, while the 810i uses Duo...

The sync screen size is surprisingly bigger than the 810i as well...not that thats an issue with me.

I need to hold both phones, and check out the menu's to really make my final judgement, but at least i've narrowed it down to 2. lol.

I'm actually debating right now between the w810 and the sync. They both have similiar functions but at the end I might end up going with the sync because it's a 3G phone.

Samsung SYNC SGH-A707.
It has its faults but for the money this is a great phone. The screen is simply beautiful.
The w810i's screen was not as nice, the phone itself is to small, and it lacks 3G.
The w810 is more inclined to music. The SYNC more to video.
That about sums it up. You really can't go wrong with either phone. Its just a matter of preference IMO.

from what you are listing, i would say the 810. Although, I haven't had my hands on the samsung you are talking about.
