need a new backpack for school

Second year at University and I'm tired of stupid shoulder messenger bags. Being an engineering student, I've got a crap load of books to carry about; with 9 hour days and 2 hours of commute to boot. So, I need a good, durable bag that goes over both shoulders. My left shoulder has taken a beating for a one shouldered bag and it's time to treat it right.

Ideas? I was thinking Jansport or Mountain Equipment Coop (MEC) ... but maybe you've had better experiences.

I got a Jansport, it'll last for a while. I'm on my second one now, but I used the first for maybe 3 or 4 years. It doesn't have all the little pockets and crap but who needs that? No one needs slots for their carabiners and their ice picks and 50m of bungee cord

Try REI. Their warranty rocks. If their stuff starts to fall apart, they replace it with no hassle. Prices aren't that bad, either, for a good day pack.

go pick out one of those trail hiking backpacks. they're big, comfortable, and did I mention comfortable?

the bag i use for rock climbing doubles as my school bag during school year.

jansport

i've had mine for like 7 years, before that had another jansport that broke in which they replaced under warranty

buy one and you'll never have to buy another one

hmm...i guess there's no rei in canada?

just stop by your local sporting goods, climbing gym, outdoor, mountaineering shop and you'll find some nice bags. then look for them on the net, probably a lot cheaper that way.

I'm using a black diamond.

I just bought a swiss amry backpack. It's got some thick padding on it. I had a gap slinger and I've gotten sick of it because it doesnt hold more than two books, so I end up carrying more in my hands. And it looks corny. Another reason I bought a heavy duty packpack was because I transfered to a school in the middle of the city and there a lot of walking to do from building to building and across streets, etc. So I really wanted to just put everything in a backpack and leave my hands free.
