Need a new AGP graphics card

i'm looking into getting a new graphics card. I have a AIW 9700 pro RMA'd once already. I have a feeling its dieing again.

So i'm looking at the 6800gt's as they appear to be the best bang for my buck that is AGP.

Now looking at brands and so far Leadtek seems to be the one i'm looking to get eventually.

So basicly what is your opinion on the Leadtek 6800GT 256mb card?

I've had my leadtek 6800gt for about 10 months now and it runs great. I haven't oc'd it so I couldn't tell you how it oc's but it runs great for me. I had good luck with my previous leadtek card also, a ti4600.

Leadtek 6800GT is alright, and it got good reviews.

Why not check the x800xl cards either 🙂

Both cards are comparable to one of each other.

I'm just wondering, how can you tell your video card is dying? In fact, I have yet to experience "killing" a video card in the almost two decades of my computing experience. Luck?

i had to RMA it and the same error is popping up again. "vpu recover" errors. before i rma'd it i was getting vpu errors which then eventually turned into green lines, the entire screen green, and then black - it died. I'm getting the vpu recover errors again.

hence the switch to nvidia and a new card.

6800GT is a great card but the x800xl gives you better bang for the buck, if i was buying i would go for the x800xl and save some money for xmas 🙂

Exactly as I've had both (yes Leadtek) but the ATI is in my system :music:

well its not the speed that is important to me. What i have now runs everything just fine - just its dieing and I already had to RMA it and get it fixed. So my logic is, whatever it is they fixed, is broke again since i'm getting the same error again.

I basicly want to try something new other than ATI - thats why I don't want ATI again. I bought the original ATI radeon which still works to this day and my new ATI card which died once and dieing again.

I'm not saying ATI is bad. ATI can make good cards. I Just need a change in flavor.

so back to the card ...

anyone else have opinions about Leadtek 6800GT's?

The only source i got is the tomshardware VGA benchmarks.

But the X800XL is actually comparaable to the 6800. The 6800 is like 144.

but thats only off of that one source.

"The X800 XL will only be available as a PCI Express GPU while the 6800GT is available in both AGP and PCI Express versions. "

i do not have any pci-e slots. Meaning, no i am not and will not ever buy a new motherboard just to get a pci-e slot.

I will buy a new motherboard when i feel i need a new computer and that won't be until i see 6ghz cpu's or until what i have dies and falls over dead.

I can understand if you want a change of pace, but 249 is a decent deal for that card. It outperforms a 6800GT in most things, except that may reverse with newer games implementing HDR. I say 6800GT, any brand 🙂

I know maybe you want something RIGHT NOW but I just wanted to say that ATI has a new AVIVO technology that makes videos look stunning. It will be featured on their next video cards. However, the mid-range line of those cards will only be out in like...December.

He's also said he wants an nvidia card.

Have you checked your power supply? Not to state the obvious but if you've had 2 cards die on you consecutively, when most people never have that happen, it's a little odd.....

I don' t need anything right now.

I always wait at most 6 months before buying anything like this. Just because its expensive, want vs. need, and my card isn't dead yet.

I did install new ATI drivers, the 5.9 or whatever - see what happens

I am actually considering the VIVO gigabyte 800XL or whatever it is - too many 800xx series.

Its not odd, its unfortunate

I have an Enermax 430w power supply as stated in my sig.

It is not necassary or sufficent for it to be nvidia. I will also still consider ATI; however, i would like a change in flavor. Getting the samething all the time gets old and boring.

Yes but he also stated that he has an AIW 9700pro... and those get quite hot. Bad PSU and/or heat will result in that going south after a while.

I am happy with my eVGA 6800 AGP w. softmod to full perfect vertex and pipes. Does DoD quite nice. Will even be better once I get my Audigy 2 to pick up some cpu cycles being lost on my Envy24 sound card.

i'm not a fan of modding anything ... i never have luck with those.

Evga does seem like an interesting company though.
