Requirments:

at least 1 dvi (2 would be nice but not required)
HDTV out (i use the ATI dongle now but any type of support is fine)

faster than my 9800pro (thats the easy part)

Do they make any 7800gs cards with HDTV out? I havnt seen any. So far my only option is a 850xt. Any other suggestions?

at newegg there is no mention of HDTV support on the 7800gs cards. does it have that?

i would prefer the 7800gs but cant live without my TV hooked to the PC

Just look for a used X800XTPE or X850XTPE, that way u won't even have to change drivers.

Um? I strongly recommend uninstalling drivers before you change for a videocard of a different generation.

I upgraded to an X850Pro from my 9800Pro (now sold), and frankly, it wasn't much of an upgrade - I ended up returning it to CompUSA (great return policy!) and graduating to a PCIe setup.

If you want something faster (noticeably), go at least an X850XL.

I thought going from 8 pixpipes to 12 would have made a difference - no dice.

waste of time from the same manufacturer. :p

ALL Radeons uses EXACTLY the same drivers. just uninstall the old HW. ;)

and - seriously, is the 7800GS really missing this feature? :p

and the x850xt is quite a bit faster than the x850pro or x700 series.

I just purchased an X850Pro from ATI's own web store, $119. Unfortunately, mine is not unlockable to 16 pipelines. Still seems pretty kick-ass compared to my R9200, but extra pipelines would have been nice. Haven't changed the clocks from 500/500 yet.

Always recommended to reinstall the drivers when upgrading to the next generation card, even if fromt he same manufacturer. The new card will probably have features that were not available on the previous card, and these features may not be automatically detected without a new driver installation. It only takes a couple of minutes to install, anyway.

For $159, can't be beat on AGP. With a coupon for being a first timer you can also get $10 off. Want X850XT speeds? Overlock it a wimpy 20mhz. Need XT PE speeds? Push it 40-50mhz instead. Performs nearly as well as a 7800GS for a lot less green.

Hehe - I should have visited this forum before - might have breathed some life into my aging P4 3.0E AGP IDEQ SFF awhile back. As it was - I sucked it up with my 9800Pro until I eventually upgraded to PCIe. Not that the endpoint was any worse. :)
