About two years ago, I built my brother a computer for mild gaming. E6600, 2GB RAM, P965 motherboard, 650W PSU, and a 7900GS. He mainly plays WoW and a few other non-graphics intensive games.

This Christmas, I bought him a PS3 (he's a great brother, by the way ;) ). I'd like to get him a computer monitor that he can also hook his PS3 up to.

Will any monitor with both DVI (computer) and HDMI (PS3) do? What can I do about getting sound out of the PS3? Any recommendations?

We're looking for something in the 22-24" range, and $200-350 or so. TN panels are fine.

Thanks!

I suggest getting one of those new 1080p ASUS monitors available on newegg. They allow you to hook up your PS3 via HDMI, and most reviewers seem very satisfied. I'll be getting one of these myself soon. Also, Benq E2200HD and E2400HD both have HDMI inputs and 1080p res. I recommended these monitors because they are not too expencive. If you want to spend more money , there are a few other options.

As for non HDMI monitors, you'll need an adapter. When it comes to sound, many monitors have build in speakers. These speakers are usually of crappy quality, but good enough for console gaming.

Asus 1080p monitors seem to be best bang for buck with better specs than Acer or Viewsonic with lower price. I just got the 22" 1080p. It's crystal clear and bright as heaven. It does seem to be slight grainy if you are looking at some pictures at some angles if you are a very nitpicking person but the overall image quality seem crystal clear. It could just be the 22" with low pixel pitch.

I haven't tried the HDMI with my monitor I'm sure the onboard speakers should work with HDMI.
