Hi,

One of my Asus P4S333's took a dump, so my 1.6A needs a new home.

I will be running the p4 at default (16x100=1600) then it will be OC to 16x133=2130.

Will be using kingston pc3200 ram in the system.

Do these new Intel chipset boards support this thing?

What about the new SiS boards, possibly looking to get a refurb off newegg or even something new.

The prices on p4 boards are resonable enough. Specifically looking at the i8xx series.

Im basically unsure of how newegg lists the boards, as well as how my chip is rated.

I am guessing I need to look for a board with supported FSB of 200, but would the chip work fine with one

supporting 266 and not 200? I dont even see boards with listed support for FSB of 200.

thx for help :)

EDIT: Today newegg has some MSI boards in the refurb section around 30 bucks.

MSI "848P NEO-V" i848P is $30

MSI PT800 "PT8 Neo-LSR" is $36

Also there are a couple SiS chipset boards 651 and 661 for $37 and $36 respectively

First is your P4 chip 423 or 478 pin.

This is what will really affect what board you get.

get an i865 motherboard, and why stop at 2.1ghz? , Put FSB to 160, with the voltage at 1.65..

also i suggest using 2 sticks of identical ram, for dual channel if possible

Ok looking at the Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000Pro or the GA-8IPE1000-G. Not sure what the differences are in those two, but newegg still sells the 1000-G so I might go with that.

They are both i865PE. Not sure if they can OC but im guessing they can.

I have an identical setup (1.6a + asus p4s333) in another computer that I tried my spare proc in, after trying it I went back with the original, now it seems the board is acting funny.

I keep getting the error "Hardware moniter found an error press F1 to continue." This happens every startup either soft reset or cold boot.

Also, it wont even reach into windows correctly, it just seems to restart itself after it loads startup stuff.

So it seems I need 2 boards for my 1.6a's.

EDIT: Pretty sure the GA-8IPE1000-G is an i865G chipset even though newegg lists it as 865PE. (listed as 865G on gigabyte site). Although just about every site ive seen says the GA-8IPE1000-G is i865. Who the hell knows.
