Need a little WPA security help please

I have a Linksys router set to WPA personal wireless security. With two of the laptops on the wireless all I have to do is input the password when prompted. With the third laptop the computer will not ever prompt for the password so I can't get onto the network. All three computers are running Windows XP SP2.

Any suggestions for things I could try?

Thanks,

Mark

Perhaps that device does not support WPA? Sorry to state the obvious but it's all I can think of.

You can detect the network right? Just not connect...

Are all 3 laptops using the same Wireless NIC? Are you using Windows or the manufacturer's software to connect?

Thanks for taking the time to try and help me with this.

The notebook in question is a Compaq. It does detect the network and I can actually connect with it using WEP. Using WPA it will just search for the network for a few minutes and then say there are no wireless networks in range.

I thought if you had XP with SP2 you could do WPA.

The problem with using WEP, besides it being less secure, is that my old Compaq Evo n600c won't reliably connect using WEP but it works flawlessly with WPA.

Old Wireless (up to about 2 years ago) were only WEP capable.

When using few computers through Wireless, security has to be configured to the lowest of what all computers can do. If one computer can do WEP only all the system need to be configured to WEP.

There is however simple solution. You probably can find a WPA capable card on sale for about $20 and upgrade the WEP only computer to WPA capable card.
