Can someone please give me a step by step procedure for setting up a 2nd instance of F&H so I can take advantage of my X2 dual cores???

I know about creating different directory, but get lost on setting up another machine ID...

Not running F@H so i can't help you out but you may want to edit your thread title to include F@H so the proper people will know to take a look in here to help you out.

Hello Duvie :)

Your X2 will really put out some good production! ProviaFan recently got one going.

You can run one GUI and one console; or two consoles. Console can be run as service. I think you can run two consoles as service. Can someone else confirm this?

To configure the MachineID on a console, you have to enter config mode.

The first time you run the console it does a config. Team number is 198.

To enter config again: either use a command window or make a shortcut.
In the properties of the shortcut (right click and select Properties), at the end of what is in the Target textbox add a space, a dash, and "configonly" without the quotes. Also add another space, a dash and "local".

Whenever you want to reconfigure you can use this shortcut.

You must shut down the program before configuring.

During config you will have to answer yes to change advanced options, when asked for MachineID, change it to "2".

If you have installed the GUI version it uses MachineID "1", so if you decide to use two consoles config both using 2 and 3.

If you have any other questions please ask!

yes , you can run 2 or 4 instances of the console as services.

user guide
I never copy the config file to the other folders, I just run the exe in the folder I'm setting up with the -configonly option and create the config there.

to make sure any other flags are used when running as a service such as -advmethods you will need to run regedit.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\FAH@D:+FAH+FAH502-Console.exe

edit the image path and add whatever flags you want to run.
example:
\FAH\FAH502-Console.exe -svcstart -advmethods

That's my startup guide, it has instructions on how to set up two folders at once. Basically create another folder with a copy of the CLI version and set the Machine ID to whatever number your first copy isn't using. Works fine on my HT P4.

EDIT: To change the machine ID just fire up the CLI version in a command prompt window with the -configonly flag and go throught the questions, but make sure to go into the advanced options, it's the last question.

Running two CLIs as services is very easy. Aside from configuring each with -configonly -local and setting advanced options, machine ID to be different for each client, answer Yes to install as a service for both clients. As osage said, you can run regedit later to add more flags if necessary. I would not recommend Big WUs on both clients unless you have 2GB of RAM or more (I accept Big WUs, and at "idle" (logged in but doing nothing except 2x F@H) my system averages between 600 and 700MB of RAM in use).
