I'm trying to backup the local users from a Windows 2k box and transfer them to a Windows 2k3 box. The local users are just there for network access, there do not have any settings or desktop. They do have one folder that only they can use.
Most backup software copies files not the local users themselves. In NTFS, the local users will stay attached to the files so transfer is not an issue but copying the local users intact (with password) seems to be a bit difficult.
Any help would be welcome.

I have no idea what you're asking, and I'm familiar with local user vs. domain user accounts. What are you trying to do? Rephrase it. If it's just a local user account, you'll need to recreate the account; the accounts are stored in just the local SAM and won't make a transition from one workstation to another. Is that what you mean?

Move all users from the Win2k box to a Win2k3 box. Just the users, no desktop, no settings, nothing but the users themselves.

IC.

Start typing. :)

Without a domain structure, the databases are individual per-machine.

Would it be easier to simply upgrade that machine to Win2k3?

Would be if I dinna want to keep the Win2k box intact.
Let me explain it this way. The Win2k box is a phone/file server. I need to carve the file server out and dump it onto the Win2k3 box, with local users and files intact. I still want to keep the Win2k box as a phone server, but only a phone server.
