Need a little help with something i'm working on UPDATED WITH POLL

I'm not exactly sure that this is the topic it should be posted under but here goes nothing.

I am in the process of designing a rest that you would rest your elbow on. It would attach to the arm of any chair. I would have a mechanism that allows it to move in the x and z axis but not in the y (vertical) axis to a certain extent but it would bounce back into the original position if no pressure is applied. It would also be contoured to your elbow as well as be made of a material that would make it very comfortable to lean on.

Basically, I would like to know:
1. Would you would even consider buying a device like this?
2. How much would you pay for such a device?
3. What qualities would you like for this device to have other than the ones i mentioned?


Any advice in general would be appreciated.

1) yes, id consider buying one for sure
2) for some reason, i want to say $20-40
3) maybe make the material soft, sort of an extra cushion for your elbow. maybe fill the material with those little, soft beads that seem to be making a comback. maybe make a little pouch on the arm that you can sit your elbow in

3 - Something somewhat-soft and comfortable, but make sure it doesn't get sticky and uncomfortable on hot days like some materials do.

hmmm, how to describe this.... ok, on the left arm of the chair, make the rest you are designing stationary, but on the right arm of the chair, make the middle of it sort of bendable, so that people can go from their mouse to the keyboard without having to move their arm out of the rest, just swing/bend over to the keyboard, and back to the mouse. did anybody understand that?

that's a great idea... however i'm planning to make this so that it only attaches to one of the arms

I was thinking that it'd be easier to have something that easily attaches and detaches from the elbow. Sort of like the kneepads construction workers use.

it would be easier to make but it wouldnt have as much functionality as this would and most wouldn't want to "wear" something just to use a computer. this can stay attached to your chair

Id be more interested in a side sleeper pillow on a shelf, as follows.
You know how you always fall asleep with your arm pointing striaght up and your head is resting on your shoulder/upper arm (with a thin pillow between them)? I need a pillow shelf that would allow me to sleep on my side, with my arm stretched out parallel to my body without the weight of my head and pillow putting it to sleep. (cutting off the circulation)

It needs to be thick enough to support your head and neck comfortably. Using some type of memory foam to as to be soft to the touch. But most importantly, it needs to to be like a shelf, so that there is a space for your arm to go through it, so your head is never directly putting pressure on your arm or shoulder.

How "clunky" will it be? ie, if I'm moving my chair around some, will the attachment constantly be banging into the desk/wall whatever?

Yes, I'd buy one. Decent idea. Now for execution.

I bought a new cushion at a yard sale for the comp chair. It's a gel pad like the wheelchair
bound use. Works fantastic.
