Heres the thing. I've got a friend that brought me a laptop which is a Pavilion ze5700, and it seems to be pretty nice and when I went to HP's sight I found all the drivers right away, atleast thats what I thought. Well the drivers for botht the video and the telepad worked, however the drivers for my lan did not.

I installed drivers called Broadcom WLAN Network Adapters Driver for Windows 2000 version 3.00b. Well I installed them and it seems as though the it installed remote networking, but what I'm trying to do is just plug this laptop into an exisiting router thats splitting up my cable. With every other computer I've ever used all I have to do is plug the cat5 cable into the computer and if the network card is installed the net instantly works.

Well the thing is I installed thoughs drivers, and then there was that little icon on the taskbar, you know in the bottom right that displays programs and such, "like a working network" Well the lapop was the normal pc icon and the internet end was a red x, but I had just unplugged the wire from one comp to this laptop, so I'm confused.

Also in my system properties it lists a network adapter that is not installed, so how do I find the drivers for that network card?

You got your laptops wireless network cards drivers not it's wired NIC's drivers, you need to get your normal LAN drivers from HP if it's not supported out of the box by XP.

I must have thought that the nic drivers were included because they don't have them listed separatly on there site. I even went to the section for win2k drivers because thats what I've got on here. Where could I find the drivers do you suppose?

Anyone know where to look for these drivers? I've tried driverguide.com and I've tried their tool kit to try to identify the network card with no luck.

You shouldn't have to download drivers for the onboard LAN. HP uses mainly Realtek and 3Com which should be supported out of the box by Windows. The 3 network devices should be onboard LAN, wireless LAN, and firewire adapter.
