D-link 804 router

I have mangaged to sucessfully hook up one of my 2 systems thru the router and it is running perfect. On my second machine whenever I try to relase and renew my ip I get the dhcp server unavailible msg. I have pinged my router and it times out , I have pinged 127.0.0.1 and the nic is there I have lights on both the router and the nic showing connection. Does anyone have any advice to help me get this running.

Thanks in advance

Try turning the speed down to 10Mbps on the NIC that is not working. If this fixes the problem, then you are probably running with a cable that is unreliable at 100Mbps. Try rewiring properly for 100 Mbps

Probably a bad cable or the wrong port. Make sure you aren't using the "uplink"port and the port next to it at the same time, they're usually shared and are mutually exclusive. You may be using a crossover cable (and need a straight-through).

Are you getting a link light for the machine that's not working?

Have you tried the same cable (from the working machine) in the same port (as the working machine)?

Do you have TCP/IP loaded/enabled on the nonfunctional machine?

Did you make the cables, or buy them pre-made?

Gotta know...

Happy New Year
