Need a little help from Outlook gurus

I use Outlook 2003 at the office because it integrates with my calendar, smartphone, etc. It is my email client. My default browser is Chrome. Unfortunately, whenever I click a link in an Outlook email, it automatically opens up IE. I've tried re-setting the default browswer to IE and back again, with no luck. I've tried using Thunderbird as email client, and it opens Chrome when I click on links just like it is supposed to. Any ideas appreciated.
