need a little help from car experts, car takes like 10 attempts before starting?

once a week I run into this. Takes about 10 sometimes 15 trys before it starts. Aside from this it works perfectly normal. I'm not sure what is wrong with such a symptom? Battery, spark plugs, starter, alternator, ignition coil?

Sounds like your starter is coming apart. It will turn so far, and then finally catch. Take a look, you should see that its not sitting right.

could be worn gears on your starter. Just remember...three things to make an engine work; spark, fuel, and air. Check your plugs for fouling, make sure your fuel lines are not kinked (not so easy to check), and make sure your airbox is clean.

air filter is not clean in fact I've not changed it in 4 years. But I didn't think that could be the cause.

It varys mostly cold starts but sometimes not.

By not start I assume you mean nothing at all happens when you turn the key? Could be a bad spot in the starter windings.

I don't think he means nothing happens... I don't think anyone would be persistant enough to attempt to start it 15 times if nothing happened at all. I highly doubt the starter, assuming the starter is turning over the engine (otherwise your post would have been "I hear a sound when I turn the key, but nothing happens to the engine" in which case, you wouldn't have had any doubt. Also, the alternator doesn't have anything to do with it not starting. Plus, if you can turn it over 10 or 15 times before it starts, I doubt it's the battery - if the battery was too weak to start the car in the first place, you'd only hear a clicking sound long before you hit attempt #15.

However, I have no idea what the problem is... Definitely get a clean air filter in there, certainly can't hurt, and it's pretty cheap.

My 95 pathfinder wouldn't start every now and then. It would jus keep turning over but would start.

I called AAA roadside service and he looked at it, tried a couple of different things and after a whlie he sprayed some stuff (it had a cool name, like wiredryer or something like that) on the spark plug wires. It's some kind of sealer that prevents moisture from messin with things. The truck was fine. I had the spark plug wires replaced and it ran fine ever since 😀

Hope it's that simple for you too. Call AAA, or get a freind who is a member to call for ya 😀

try some ether in your airbox. If it doesn't work, inhale the rest of the can and you'll forget all about your car b/c you'll be flying to work!

Ha Ha Hahahaha 😀

cool thx for the tips. Yes it turns over just won't start. Seems like a spark plug related problem. Will replace the air filter and clean the box cause it's due anyways.
