Is arctic silver the best thing to use on CPU HSF's? A few people have mentioned how it oozes out. I remember seeing some other silver grease advertised that said it didn't do this. Maybe it was the Quicksilver stuff? Where's the cheapest place to buy?

I've got a video card (Banshee) that I put a pentium HSF on using orange permatex gasket maker, since there was no clip, it's upside down, and the HSF is pretty heavy. This was a couple years ago, before I knew about arctic silver. I need to yank the HSF off temporarily to get access to the slot below it and re-attach it. Will thermal paste hold it? Are all thermal pastes similar? Cheapest place to buy?
Also, any recommendations on how to get the HSF off?!

First of all, yes, yes and yes, the Arctic Silver is the winner in all reviews I know. I have used it 3 or 4 times now and didn't run into any problems at all!

Secondly use Arctic Silver Epoxy glue, it has nearly the same thermal features and I think it is able to hold almost all coolers in place (perhaps except those 400+ g copper monsters).

somebody else in this forum had suggested using plain arctic silver and leave small corners ungreased then use plain old super glue. I actually did this to my ge force2 mx with a small heatsink no fan.
I dont know how this will hold with a big hsf. then again its super glue so it should stay glued.

Just another option for you
