hi,

i have a radeon 8500 for two years now. Playing with the thought to get a dx9 card...but i am totally lost with their current line-up of cards...they have like 20 different cards and every week they add some new ones.

Does anyone have a nice list of the latest dx9 cards with differences between the cards. XT, SE etc...i am really totally lost..i would need a day to check into their range of cards to know what to get... I need the best bang for the buck...budget..i'd say in the MAX $300 range....

i just want a card which is suitable for the latest games, like Max Payne 2, HL2, Doom3 when it comes..and i do NOT plan to spend $500 on one video card...lol..
I also dont want a card which is totally outdated and obsolete in 3 months....

thanks

edit: bios flashing is an option..that is, if i can be certain that a card i get has the right type of memory/nr. of pipelines and i can flash a lower card to a better one successfully (the right type of memory assumed)....and..why is the 9600 so cheap ? Is the 9600 a low end card ?

You only need to consider 2 cards

9600 pro for 150$ = alright, but not exciting performance. Will be obsolete in a year

9800 pro = 300$ Great performance should keep you on top for 6 months, and be good enough for about a year or 3 considering how much you stretch your cards
