alan, you get used to it after a while.

It can be difficult at first, but especially with some of the older titles, the overdub can be absolutely HORRIBLE (poorly acted and a lousy translation).

You get a good fansub and it kicks but (especailly when things like text on books and signs are translated too).

It's actually not uncommon to have trouble reading subtitles and watching the movie when you're simply not used to subtitles. That's also the largest complaint that I've heard from dub watchers, but they usually never gave subs enough of a chance. I started watching anime (that I actually called anime) during the early "Toonami days", but I found myself branching out to find other anime than just Dragonball and Gundam. The only way to watch it then was subtitled. So, I was pretty much forced to watch them that way or not at all. The first anime that I watched fully subtitled was Trigun, and I did watch some Dragonball subtitled... I mean, who doesn't remember downloading those awful 320x240 Real Media encodes of DB :p.

The point is... you get used to it :p. I don't usually watch dubs myself, but I have seen a few that actually don't sound that bad. However... I cannot stand a dub that changes the actual text just because American people won't get the puns or references. That reminds me... I was at an anime mini-con once (I rarely ever go to those, so no comments!), and I noticed that they were playing Kerokero (Sgt. Frog). I had an ex recommend that to me a long time ago, so I decided that I'd go and check it out finally! Once I opened that door... I realized that I was not ready for the horror that I had unleashed upon my ears. I was met with the foul screeches of a thousand banshees... yes... it was a terrible English dub! Worst off, they changed all the Japanese references to silly American ones about Britney Spears and such :\.

Getting even further off topic, I think I feel more awkward at anime conventions than I do anywhere else. I've always been a "closeted anime fan" and prefer to keep it that way.

EDIT:

It was probably good until the last few episodes, right about where it split from the Manga....

I never watched the Death Note anime (I did watch the LA), but I stopped reading the manga when
they gave the Death Note to a corporation.
I just didn't like the direction that it was going in.

You guys dont understand its that my reading skills arnt up to par with what yours is. I cant mentally keep up. even reading a thread like this I have to read then reread it a few times to completely understand it. Ever since I was a child I have had problems reading I had to work twice as hard in english to get the same result that the other kids have. My daughter is having the same issue. I can read fine its just I dont comprehend it the first few times through. Trust me I wish I did I would be all over subbed I heard from multi people they are much better.

Learn to read and anime/foreign stuff in general will have much greater entertainment value.

-Nadisco

I don't think learning is the issue here so don't be a dick dude.

OP, I just started watching initial D, dubbed from netflix, and while the animation is nothing to speak, the overall show was pretty cool and I got easily addicted to it. I'm currently on the fourth stage.

edited, there are more! :D

Thanks for sticking up for me. He really was a dick for no reason. I dont understand why people need to act like that. Maybe south park was right maybe hes a dick because he has such a small penis. Dont worry man they lowered the average penis size down to 1.4 inches in that show so you should be good now. So theres no reason to be an asshole anymore unless your dick is smaller then t hat.

I guess worrying about other peoples dicks takes up too much of your thought, which is why you fail so much at reading.

Wow I guess that means your penis is smaller then 1.4 inches. Your GF/wife must fake it all the time I feel worse for her then I do you. Next time use your pinky she may get more pleasure out of that.

Hahaha. My post came off as harsher than I meant, but your reponses have been nothing but hilarious. You're expecting me to defend my penis size on the internet? What do you want a picture? Lol. You post like a 10 year old, but claim to have a daughter. I feel bad she has to be raised by someone stuck at some low level of mental development.

I would agree but it's turned to shit. It's a joke now. I puke at the thought of watching Bleach again with all the stupid random shit they throw in.

To the guy re: Deathnote, the first arc was 10 but after that it's a joke.. that's why those two have such bad ratings, since im rating them overall.

IDK, I think that the non-filler stuff (stuff that is in the manga) is fairly decent. It is the fact that they do way too many and way to long fillers that makes the series unwatchable. The fillers are total crap by any standard. It would be better if they went on hiatuses rather than putting out so much filler.

Though, the reason they have so many fillers is the fact that the author of the manga will literally spend several chapters with almost no dialog and tons of panels of the moon, or a character screaming, etc.

Compare that to something like naruto where pretty much every issue is packed with dialog and the fact that the anime did take a hiatus instead of infinite fillers and you can probably see why naruto gets 8/10 and bleach 4/10.

Bleach deserves at least a 6/10 for all non-filler stuff and a 2/10 for all filler.

You ment to be a dick. I am just being a dick back. Thats the way it goes. I didnt start this argument you did by your first post. You showed your maturity level. I am just going down to your level of thinking. The only way to argue with a kid is to treat them like one.

I am sure 3/4 of your post are just troll post because you have no life you have to try and bring everyone else back down to your level. Which it doesnt work. My post were supposed to be funny thats why I made them that way. So everyone that read them would laugh. Which I accomplished that by your comment.

There was a south park episode where everyone with a small dick was acting like a real asshole just like you. If I ment it to be serious I wouldnt have taken a south park episode and referenced it.

Just because I referenced a south park episode means im a bad father. Thats kind of a long stretch dont you think. It was a nice try to bash me thou.

In the end what it comes down to is your an asshole that has no life. I am just a guy defending myself from you. What kind of man makes fun of someone for having a disability. Which my reading and writing skill are a disability.

I posted learning to read is worth it for the improved quality of sound it; you never gave me a chance to clarify my mistyping, and I hadn't even read your post about the disability yet. That you have a disability is sad, but you're the one who started going off on a diatribe about penis size. Also, yes most of my posts are done in jest when I'm at work I like to kill some time between coding, but the post you went off on was a simply a mistake in wording.

Alan, don't worry about subs then. A lot of the time, people just give up on subs but may enjoy them more, so anime fans tend to push them harder to try it out. But if it won't work for you, it won't work, and I don't think anyone will really give you a hard time for that. I'm sure Ayashi was just joking about things... no need to get into a flame war!

Love & Peace ;)

Did they stop "ghetto-izing" the Initial D anime? I'm a pretty big fan of the Eurobeat/Eurodance that they use in the show.

I used to read the manga quite a bit, but then I forgot where fourth stage actually leaves off. Once Inane stopped scanlating Initial D, it took awhile for someone to pick it up, and it doesn't seem like a major group. It's too bad Inane dropped it, but after putting out two chapters a day for a few weeks... trust me... it's hell. I'd know, because I worked on Initial D for Inane ;). We actually had a huge backlog of translations available... that's why we released so many at once :\.

The other manga that I miss that I used to work on is Bowling King... that's a... Malaysian (?) manga I believe about a kid... well, as you can guess he ends up bowling and stuff. It has some great comedy in it and is well worth reading if you haven't. I actually ran into someone on IRC that used to read it... I was kind of surprised, because I didn't think it was a very popular release.

Nice! I haven't started reading the manga yet because i find it hard to follow. I guess it's just one of those manga for me. However, I really don't sense any "ghettoness" in the anime. Just some good action and a bit of comedy.

I'll have to check out this manga sometime. I use mangareader for most of my mainstream stuff but am always looking for more offbeat stuff to read. i have a pretty wide range of tastes so i'm open to practically everything. :D

Well if thats the truth I apoligies. Mistakes happen. I am just sick of people bring up spelling grammer or just being dicks for no reason saying stupid comments that waste time and space. I cant stand it. I was getting really good responses then I have someone come up and tell me to learn to read when I already do just have problems with it.

And I wasnt the eonly one that thought u were being a dick either. Others posted the same thing

Hmm didn't they replace the music in First Stage or something like that? I know they renamed the characters... Takumi is Tak, Itsuki is Iggy, Iketani is Cole, Ryousuke is Ry, etc.

Do you mean hard to follow during the races? There really isn't much going on in them unless someone uses some crazy driving technique. It's usually just Ryousuke talking about technical stuff to whoever is near him haha.

Hmm, I checked Manga Reader for Bowling King and I can't seem to find it on there. I think I lost the manga when one of my hard drives crashed :(.

Apparently, it's also a Taiwanese manga, and you can get it from NULL off a XDCC bot:
