Need a Linux distro for HTPC use

i've been trying unsuccessfully to get LIRC working for months on Ubuntu 10.04; research has shown that this distro (and 10.10) has inherent issues with LIRC not working out of the box. Can anyone recommend another distro where LIRC works, instead of being broken out of the box?
 
I've never tried LIRC, so I don't know what it works best on... I do know that Boxee runs on Ubuntu 10.4....I'd stick with that and wait for someone to fix the LIRC/Ubuntu problems. You can always try contacting the LIRC folks via sourceforge and see what they say about your problem...they might have a fix.
