i'm running an FIC sd11 (slot a, amd 751 chipset) mobo, with an athlon 600 classic in it right now. i decided to do a small upgrade to get me through another year or two of college before i buy my big fancy rig. as it sits right now i've got:
600mhz athlon @ 599Mhz
fic sd11
256mb samsung memory (pc100 mind you)
diamond viper v770 vid card (tnt2 chipset, non ultra)
sb live xgamer
3com NIC
i dont have money for a full mobo/proc replacement (although i am looking at holding off a lil while a spending a lil more to get a mobo/proc/mem replacement)
my options are:
buy an athlon classic 950mhz (speed limited on mobo)
buy a tbird 800 (again, mobo limited)
dont bother
wait and replace all in two or three months
take a hammer and beat the crapola outta my comp

and oh yeah, i've got a geforce 4 mx 440 on the way to me right now, should be here tomorrow or saturday - i dont have to deal with MoH:AA at 640x480 with all options off anymore! =)

Wait for 2 or 3 months, then replace the whole lot. 2-3 months actually can go by quite quickly, and you'll be a lot happier with a whole new system rather than a Frankenstien with some new parts being held back by old parts.

The old TNT was a big bottleneck so the new MX4 card will let you put off the other upgrades for the 3 months you indicated IMO. Best just to save the cash and reinvest it then, perhaps DDR will come back down a bit by then. XPs should be priced even lower than they are now as well.
