Need a LCD recommendation

So, it's time for a new monitor, and I'm looking to pick up a 23-24" at ~$250. I do a decent amount of gaming on it if that would affect the recommendations at all. Thanks!
 
I picked up the 23" version of that at Best Buy last week, the vh232h, I really liked the colors, but I had a slight problem with the backlight, it was much brighter at the bottom to the point of almost washing out colors compared to the top which looked dim in comparison. I understand that there's going to be some variation on a TN panel, but that was a bad example of it. Anyone have that Asus monitor linked above to say if it's better in that department?
