anyone else think this is a nice customized system from compaq that i customized? I think the 60gig HD is enough, i just upgraded the memory (extra open slot to upgrade) instead of the HD.

its a compaq r4000

good deals? suggestions? Ones that i should defiantly eliminate? Should I add any? The compaq i customized with no link but just specs (option 2) WAS what I was leading towards until i heard that refurbished IBM's were good deals. The word refurbished scares me, but If enough people on here say its a good Idea then I might do it.

What do you want the laptop for?
Is this going to be desktop replacement or portable?
How much battery life are you expecting?
Are you going to be doing light gaming?

It is hard to help with so little criteria.

depends on what you want to use the notebook for. RADEON XPRESS 200M is a terrible option for games, but passable for basic tasks.

ok i wont play any games on it most likely, the occaisonal madden or the sims 2 other then that not really at all. I dont need good battery life at all, im 90 percent sittin somewhere where i can plug it in.

To further confuse you with options, I would look into the HP ze2000z.

It seems to be reasonably priced at $630 AR. It has a ATI X200, which should be enough for Sims 2 and Madden, and if you put a Turion and a 12 cell battery in it, it might even get decent battery life.

Off of that computer I would upgrade to the cheapest Turion, upgrade to 512mb of RAM, brightview screen, and a 12 cell battery.
This puts the price up the $788, so it should be a tad over $800 after shipping.
