Need a laptop for 16gb ram crucial kit

So i was wondering if anyone could help me out ha. I bought the wrong ram and instead of getting 16gb for my desktop. i got 16gb ram for a laptop. so i was wondering what laptop is compatible. here are the specs of the ram i have.

Figured the best way to get information is ask the forum. hope someone could help me.
minimum laptop i require is just

  • Windows XP SP2
  • Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3 OR AMD Athlon 64 X2
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000 (256 MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0)
  • 16 GB RAM compatibility
 
no core 2 duo chipset can take 16gb of ram.

You need a 1st gen quad core i7 mobile (the dual core won't see 16gb) or a 2nd gen+ i5 or i7 for your laptop to see 16gb.
 
Didn't Dell produce an M6400 with C2D and 16GB RAM support? Not that I'm suggesting it for the OP, just for clarification.

Not quite right, but none of them could do 8GB sticks, so a Core 2 era system still wouldn't be an option for OP, even though a handful might have had 4 slots.

That was a Core, I'm pretty sure.

Some Turion II systems would support it, but they tended to mostly be in craptops, though some good business HP models had them.
 
Thanks Cerb, found some info, M6400 specs, yes, it supported 16GB and used 4 slots. I don't know if 8GB modules are usable as I imagine 16GB back then would have been exotic and 8GB SODIMM's just not comprehensible at that time. Also a lot of the C2D laptops used DDR2 even though the 4 series supported both.

Not sure if the OP is just curious, seems strange not to send them back or resell but instead buy a laptop. C2D is old now, have one in my current laptop and am looking for a suitable Haswell replacement.

just been busy with work. everyone's input in this is awesome. i just forgot to return them. and i want to get a laptop that's current too. so that's why i saved them. just sucks because the cheapest one i seen so far was like $700ish. as of now my budget isn't that much. $300-$350 max because i don't need a lot of things. is there a way to customize your laptop ? haha. no but for real. is there?
