Need a *great* gaming LCD for NO MORE than $400

Hey guys, my 21" CRT (though quite the workhorse), has got to go...it's HUGE and heavy...I long for a little desk space.

I'm looking for a 19" LCD used primarily for gaming with a vibrant display. I was looking into the l90d+ (a huge favorite on these forums it seems), but was concerned about the 6-bit color panel and the dead pixel problems. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend me a good gaming monitor (8ms RT or lower I assume), with the best specs for the price. I can spend up to $400 (provided it has some staying power).

Viewsonic VP191b/VP930b? The VX924 has good response time, and is closer to $300, but has a 6-bit panel.

The thing is, how severe is the difference between 6 and 8 bit color? Severe enough to warrant the 100+ bucks to go with the 8 bit?

If you want to see the difference, change your color depth to 16-bit and use your computer. If you don't notice it, or can live with it, it's not an issue for you.

Not quite a fair comparison, since 16-bit color (65,535 unique colors) is signficantly worse than 18-bit color (262,144 unique colors). But the effect is similar, if not quite as pronounced.

If you want 8-bit and fast response times you're going to be SOL with that budget. You're going to end up with 6-bit in that budget.

Samsung 930bf a 6-bit color panel, response time of 4ms, DVI cable included and better for dead pixel than a hyundai I think.

that's what I'm afraid of...

If it's not feasible to get a response time of 8ms and an 8-bit panel, then I'd favor the fast response time (cause gaming is my primary concern I guess), and prolly go with a samsung...I just want to make sure that there isn't some undiscovered LCD out there with BOTH features for $400 or under :)

How does the Samsung 930BF differ from the 903B or 940B?
In reviews I've read the 930B is an OK gaming monitor at best , and a large % of them suffer from backlight bleeding. And the 940B doesn't seem to really improve on this.

If the BF is a true 4ms and fixes the bleeding issue, then it sounds as if it could be the best <$400 19" gaming LCD available.

I have the samsung 730b 17" LCD. It's clear, no noticeable ghosting (8 ms) and no dead pixels.

Pretty good price too, you can find it at BB ususally for $250 AR, and the 19" one for $330 when the sales running.

It has DVI, but doesnt come with a cable...
