Still trying to decide on the perfect components...
I use quite a few USB devices so I am looking to get a USB hub that will give me the ability to add and remove hardware on the fly with windows running. I have read that some of the hubs only allow you to do this when the PC is powered down.

Any suggestions?

I bought an el-cheapo $10 USB hub from Fry's, and it lets me plug/unplug with the computer on with no problems. I think your information is incorrect.

All USB hubs are pretty much the same (well, there are 2 categories, "powered" and "unpowered"). I'd buy the powered kind (draws power from the AC adapter and not just the PC's USB port).

Get the cheapest kind, or the coolest-looking one if that's what you're after.

Don't forget that those lying bastards may advertize it as a 5-port hub, but the 5-th connector is actually the one that connects to the PC's USB port (so you can't use it of course ;))

So all that stuff about not being able to change things on the fly is a bunch of rubbish?
