Need a good universal remote

The universal remote that came with my new Scientific Atlanta DVR is a piece of junk, and doesn't seem to know the correct codes for my Sony television. Does anyone know of a good universal remote that can control a Sony TV, DVD Player, VCR, Stereo, AND a Scientific Atlanta DVR? Ideally, I'd like one that's smart enough to do all of the menu functions as well, so can shelve all of my other remotes and have one on my coffee table.

I'm sure that at least a few of you AV gurus out there has run into this problem, and has a good solution...

What's your price range?

At walmart level - One For All is a good brand
Above that - Logitech Harmony's
Above that - see a high end local shop

I love my Harmony 659.

Do you use it with a DVR? Doesn't the button placement drive you crazy?

Nope not really. When other menus aren't up the arrow keys at the top act as DVR buttons except for record. So the button placement doesn't bother me at all.

The Harmony remotes looked pretty cool, but I'm not sure if I wanted to pay that much. Do any of the cheaper universal remotes also support the Scientific Atlanta DVR functions? I know that the one that came with my old Charter DVR did... I wish I knew what brand that one was.

I use a Harmony 880? and it works great with my receiver, my TV, my DVR, my VCR and my DVD player. Both my VCR and DVD player are around 7 years old. The TV and Receiver are brand new and the DVR is probably a few years old.

The only thing I noticed is that the eject on the VCR doesn't work (I could probably hand program it). Everything else is flawless.

I ended up getting the Harmony 550... Great remote! The wizards in the software are a bit annoying, but the remote is definately smarter than any other universal remote that I've ever used before.

I have a new Harmony 659 and 880 in box somewhere around here.

How do you like your 550? Were you able to find codes for all your A/V components?
