Need a good Socket 775 HSF that doesn't require the use of a backplate.

I am going to be using the eVGA 680i motherboard with an E6400. My skills with a dremel are not exactly top notch so I would prefer to not have to mod so I am in need of a good HSF that doesn't require a backplate. Thanks to anyone that can help.

If you look at your motherboard carefully, you'll see like about an inch from the socket that there are four holes at the corners of the socket, that is where the backplate mounts with no modding nessecary. I believe its very uncommon to have to mod to get a hsf to mount properly.

Not so. Here's some good info for you to check out... Also, OP, you might find some of this information useful.

Check out the Scythe Infinity. I've got one, no backplate, and I go to LAN parties often and have had no problems with it.

Another vote for Scythe Infinity. Also most Zalman HSFs can be installed without back plate on Socket 775 boards. Indeed, their 7500/7700 series used to be installed without back plate and they are heavier than 9500/9700 series. Stock Intel HSF should be good up to 3.20GHz with E6400 but vCore/temps will be higher.
