The server is going to be a stratum 2 time server and a directory server for 20,000 users. The server it's replacing was called "Timex". Help me name it's new replacement. I just named our auditing server "Sauron"...I figure this one can be anything, I just want to keep it away from the greek names, as well as names of birds. (Athena, Penelope, Theseus, etc are taken.... as well as Falcon, Loon, Pheonix, etc)

Why keep away from greek names?

Also, since it is replacing a "Timex" why not call it "Rolex"?

LOL...I like that.
Basically, we have an old school admin that uses the greek names. He just recently joined my group so I'm wanting to keep all the names in my area in 3-4 basic groups. Most are functional names with numbers...like LDAP1,LDAP2,LDAP3. Apache1, Apache2, Apache3, etc... It helps me keep track of the functions without getting so confused. With a server like this, it's the master replica so it can be basically anything. ;)

I was the System Admin for my old job so I named all of my new Windows 2003 servers Norse Gods. My PDC was Odin, the "BDC" was Loki.

Seriously, "God" is short, intimidating, and somewhat reflective of the use of the Server in your organization.

how about naming it what it is... not some arbitrary stupid names.
I absolutely hate that crap on networks especially since its beyond not original. Nothing like walking into a new network and being hit with a bunch of stupidly named servers and devices. Always makes for fun trying to clean up the mess left by previous Admin :p
