Hey guys,

I'm looking for a great printer for home use. Kinda like monochrome laser for budget purposes since you can get more prints out of a cartridge. Wife wants an all-in-one.

Was thinking of Brothers 7220
Its a little out of my price range, but a sub 200 dollar printer would be great.

I'm not aware of ANY printers that come with the cables.

And probably a bit OT, but I just got a Brother Laser printer, and all I can say is wow. The speed and text is great. Definitely didn't know what I was missing all those years just sticking to inkjets.

What I found to be the best was looking at Staples. If you find a printer that has a rebate, you can stack a $20 off $100 or $30 of $150 coupon purchased on ebay.

I got the Brother 2170W (wireless) for $150 minus $30 coupon minus $50 rebate.

Here's one with networking, where you could use $20 coupon if you buy something cheap to get up over $100

There's also a refurb one for even less.

probably best to decide if you want inkjet or laser. There is a nice Dell AIO inkjet they sell. I thikn it's $150. They recently had a $50 rebate on that, so you could have done the same sort of deal. Nice thing about that Dell is that it has a built in duplexer, which you don't see too often on cheaper machines. Nice way to save paper, IMO.

To be honest I really hate injets. You always run out of colored ink and the prices are outragous. I'd rather have a great black and white laser printer.

So you think the linked one is pretty nice? Also Staples is usually pretty decently priced?

I personally like Staples, cause you can stack the coupons, but Office Depot and Office Depot can have some good deals, too.

I just started researching the lasers after seeing a few in the deals section. People seem to be over all happy with the under $100 brothers, HP's etc.

Just decide if you need networking or not, and if you mind a refurb unit, and then just go from there.

Pardon my extreme lack of research and ignorance but when you say networking you mean? Wireless networking?

Therefore I do not need a cable. I can have it linked through my wireless router which my computer is hardwired to?

some are wired, some are wireless, some are both.

With my 2170W wireless model, you did need to first configure it with a cable, and then you get the MAC address and set up all that stuff, and then you can use the wireless.

I see. So for all intents in purposes I should stick with a brothers for Laser printing.

Laser Printing will yeild the best bang for buck as far as toner cartridges (I can print a ton of pages without worrying of eating through the cartridge)

And I can get a decent one for around 100.

Thanks for the information.

I'm going to step in and recommend any HP LaserJet 101x or 102x printer. I own a 1018 and it's been fabulous. You can pick it up for close to $50 in some places, poke around and do some looking. Deals can be had on the 1020, 1022, etc, as well. I'm still on my starter cart from 6 months ago and I'm a pretty regular printer (writer) plus my gilfriend is going through graduate school so she's constantly printing. I have a generic replacement toner cart sitting on the shelf waiting for the starter cart to run out. I paid $26 for the generic cart and i've seen hundreds of reviews saying it works perfectly fine.

I just bought one on sale at Best Buy for 99+ tax. It's the HP LaserJet P1006.
I've already printed a ton of pages on it, and it's awesome. Really fast first page printing, and looks nice and it's compact.
The included toner cartridge is good for around 700 pages, and replacements are good for 1500 pages.

Ended up with a simple HP 1006 Laserjet mono

It is pretty AMAZING. 99 dollars. Small size, print quality is nice, and I've decided I LOVE laser printers.

I live near a good recycling facility so I don't mind printing a lot on my LaserJet 1018. Sure beats the price of ink carts and the poor text results with most inkjets. Even really solid inkjets can't match these budget lasers.

I remember dreaming about the day I could afford a proper laser printer. Entry level used to be at least $250 to $300.

I used the HP LJ 1000 for a long time. When I got a new job the movers messed it up.
I got them to pay for it but there were no 1000's around anymore.
I bought a 1020 to replace it and I've been happy with that for the past two years.

I print like a mad monkey and still havent gone through the first toner cartridge.
HP is the only company I know that still ships with full ink or toner.
